Hopefully you're all keeping an eye on our release notes for all of the latest updates from our Product team.
This sprint has an important update for anyone concerned with privacy 👀 🔓️
Up until now, the default at Vanilla was to track any interactions that users are having with your site, and log this by user name and user ID. As of release 017 we can now set up your site to anonymize this data by default. The data will still be tracked, but it will no longer be tied to a specific user.
Beyond being able to globally anonymize data, you also have the option to allow users to opt out (or in!) individually by integrating a third party cookie consent form. Essentially this gives you three new privacy options:
- Anonymize all data
- Anonymize all data and allow users opt into tracking
- Continue tracking all data and allow users to opt out
🔸 Please note that if you chose to fully anonymize the data or allow users to opt out, you will lose the User Insights drilldown for any users not tracked.
Our Success Community uses CookieYes, but this feature should work with most cookie tools. This update has improved our ability to integrate with CookieYes and other platforms.
We would recommend that you check your tools documentation to be sure of compatibility, and if you have any questions or run into any problems please comment on this post so we can help!
