We’ve created a new field here on the community: “Bio” – if you so choose, you can share some details about yourself with the community!
To learn more about profile fields you can read up here:
With the recent release of Custom Filters for Member Directory, you can search for users based on what’s in their profile fields (or at least the ones you have access to):
For example, if you wanted to search what members of this community had the word “Vanilla” in their bio, you could find me!
To start, go into search and click 'Members' then more filters will appear on the right:
Then in the pop up menu, I chose to search for Vanilla in the Bio field:
There I am!
If you have a few minutes, go ahead and update your bio and let your fellow community builders know a little bit more about you! I know from the last HL Vanilla Connect session a lot of y’all are avid gardeners, I wonder how many more of you are excited for the upcoming growing season! 👩🌾🪴🌱
I’ve been thinking about all the interesting ways that different kinds of communities might use this feature -- for example, I can envision folks using this to search for members with similar interests or profile traits and use that to create new groups, @ mention users on a thread that might be relevant to them, or send private messages about a particular topic.
With Custom Filters for Member Directory you can select the profile fields that are most important to you and make them easily accessible as filters in your Member Directory, making it easier to find and connect with community members based on their interests, background, or professional skills, all while controlling what fields make sense to be public, private or internal.
Do you plan on leveraging the new custom filters for member directory to make networking among your users easier? Any cool usecases you’d like to share?
